Welcome to JJM! I am glad you're here, and hope to inform and entertain you through my journey as a music industry professional, performer, and manager! This website and blog are designed to document my journey from Florida to Nashville, with the hopes of helping others find the courage to make the journey. It's taken me almost ten years to finally make the move, and I am so happy (and terrified) for it to finally be happening. Let's start with a little background on me:
I grew up in a Auburndale, Florida, a little town stuck between Tampa and Orlando. We were 30 minutes from anything, but an hour away from everything. I started singing in church as a kid, joined chorus in elementary school, joined band in middle school and learned every instrument I could (tuba, trombone, euphonium, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, percussion). In high school I had some really unique and exciting opportunities to perform at places like the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. I also started playing with my own bands at that time and had the opportunity to perform a lot. Florida Southern College recruited me for the music program there, which led to even more opportunities like touring with 365 Movement. During this time I also played with a rock band, Black in the Mind, where I had the opportunity to play a lot in the Orlando area and record at Vision Sound Studios (Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Van Zant, Alicia Keys) in Orange Park, Florida. At the same time, I was performing as a pit musician for musical theatre companies TheatreWorks Florida and Penguin Entertainment, performing at places like the International FRINGE Festival and The Ritz Carlton Orlando. Lately, I've been performing with a lot of country music artists, like Justin Grimes and Marshall Taylor, opening for larger acts such as Craig Campbell and Joe Nichols.
Many people have asked me why I am moving to Nashville, or if I'm scared of failing in the music industry, or will I buy them a big house next to 'enter country star name here' once I'm rich and famous. I am moving to Nashville not only because I am a musician and love being involved in the music industry, but because the atmosphere and culture feel more like home than any place I've ever been, including my home. Am I scared? Yes, to death, but I'll overcome my fear and give it all I've got. Will I buy you a big house next to some country star once I'm rich and famous? Sure, but I don't think I will be, nor do I want to be rich and famous. I want to play music for a living, plain and simple. Whether that means I play on Lower Broad, in some studio, or for a major label artist. I don't want it for the fame or fortune, I just want to be able to do what I love and make a sustainable living in the process.
Enough about me, already. What about YOU? What do you want to see from this website and blog? What resources or topics can I research and provide that will help you with your journey in the music business? Be sure to drop me a line on the contact page and let me know. I want to start a weekly blog where I can talk about my experiences, as well as provide information to help you gain some new experiences!
Thank you for taking the time to visit the website and read the blog. The website will continue to develop with more resources and things to explore. Until next time, Much Love!
